Why Sinai: I chose Sinai because it offered the best and most established emergency medicine residency training in south Florida and is paired with people who make this a truly welcoming environment. Starting at the top with Dr. Dalley and continuing with so many of our knowledgeable and passionate faculty, residents who I immediately formed strong bonds with, and to the relationships with other staff at the hospital - especially the nurses - it is rare to see a group that works so well together. I see nurses, faculty, and residents alike constantly having each others' backs and having a great time both on shift and outside the hospital. My mentors couldn't speak highly enough of Dr. Dalley and the training each resident leaves Sinai with, and I have already seen this firsthand with the incredible senior residents I strive to one day become - running the floors like veterans in just 2 short years. From an extremely diverse patient population to top notch trauma training at Ryder Trauma center to a beautiful new emergency department in the city of Miami Beach... I feel very confident I made the right choice with Sinai.
Fun Fact: My party trick was jumping into a full split... until I tore my hamstring. I have an autograph / sports memorabilia business on the side and am an award-winning poet. Love staying active with sports including golf, basketball and pickleball.
Alexis Camargo, DO
Hometown: Miami, FL

Academic interests: Critical care, Ultrasound
Why Sinai: I wanted a program in Miami so I could serve my community. Sinai is unique in that it’s a relatively small program yet the longest established program in South Florida. The way the ED department is ran is phenomenal, with residents from various training levels caring for anything and everything that walks through those doors. There’s more than enough procedures and volume to go around and the faculty are all supportive and invested in our education. Being so close to the water is a perk in many ways - there are many tourists from all over the world that visit Miami Beach so as you can imagine some end up in our ER!
Fun Fact: I’m a twin!

Why Sinai: It's an incredible program in an amazing location. The department has been longstanding with connections spread throughout the U.S. Many of the former residents are medical directors in hospitals in South Florida and New York and were former fellows in well-renowned institutions. Our core faculty, and especially our PD Dr. Dalley, are so sincere, dedicated to teaching, and establish a healthy work culture. We learn how to work hard but prioritize our time off with friends and co-workers, playing basketball or boating. It's hard to state how much there is to do after an exciting shift on South Beach!

Why Sinai: Mt. Sinai had my attention from the beginning of the search on VSLO and other residency databases, but what absolutely sealed the deal was when I rotated here and got to experience it. The vibes, the culture of care, and the familial nature of the staff and physicians is something that was unforgettable. Why Sinai: I chose Mount Sinai's EM program because of the strong sense of community and support I felt from both the staff and residents during my rotation, which has just grown since being there this year. The camaraderie and teamwork at Sinai creates an environment where I feel both challenged and cared for, almost like being part of a second family. I was drawn to the broad scope of disease processes encountered as well as the high volume of patients, which keeps each shift dynamic and allows me to continually grow as a clinician. Most importantly, the supportive culture and collaborative spirit within the department made me feel like I belonged, and I knew it was a place where I could thrive both personally and professionally.

Why Sinai: This program has everything I was looking for in a residency program. It strikes the perfect balance between independence and guidance. As an intern, you’re able to take on cases of all acuity and do any procedure you want with the appropriate support. When I rotated here as a med student, I was so impressed by the skill level of the residents. The ultrasound and clinical education is unparalleled. But what really makes this residency the best is the people! I feel lucky to have the best co-residents and attendings supporting me on every shift. And our program director, Dr. Dalley, is the best!!! Not to mention Sinai’s ER is beautiful and right on the water. I couldn’t imagine a better place to train and work than Miami Beach!

Academic Interests: Social EM, U/S, MedEd
Why Sinai: I’m incredibly grateful to be part of the Mount Sinai Miami Beach EM residency program because it is the perfect mix of high-acuity, fast-paced medicine within a warm, tight-knit, and supportive environment. During my fourth-year rotation here, I saw how hands-on the training is, with one-on-one teaching made possible by the small program size and supportive faculty. When choosing a residency, I intentionally sought a program that would not only challenge me clinically but also nurture my passion for the social and humanitarian aspects of medicine, especially their impact on patient care and Sinai does just that. If I had to pick just one of my favorite things about Sinai, it has to be the incredible sense of community. Residents, attendings, nurses, and ancillary staff truly respect and support one another, both in and out of the hospital!

Why Sinai: I worked as an ER scribe for four years here at Sinai prior to medical school, and the education that I received from many of these doctors, APPs, RNs, and techs genuinely paved the way for me to be where I am at today. I came back as a 4th year medical student after experiencing many other ERs across the US, and I still don’t think I have met a better group of attendings and residents. To be able to complete my medical training amongst these very attendings I looked up to, and to do so while caring for the same community I grew up in- is an upmost honor.

The residents were exceptionally prepared to manage complex patients in a busy ED and had meaningful hands-on learning opportunities. I also appreciated the high-quality education delivered during weekly conferences, especially in ultrasound. Everything I experienced confirmed that Sinai is the kind of training environment that will shape me into a strong emergency physician. And above all, the culture was genuine and super welcoming
